The NHS Scotland National Video Conferencing Service, facilitated by the Scottish Centre for Telehealth and Telecare, has been shortlisted for an award at this year’s Scottish Public Service Awards.
The Service, which has grown from a simple teleconferencing facility to a national service, was set up in 2011. It now covers all health boards in Scotland providing a single point of contact for remote support, device management and bridging services for NHS Scotland.
While the VC service provides significant cost savings to the NHS in Scotland, particularly in the reduction of travelling, it also brings many additional benefits to both patients and service providers.
Also shortlisted for the Digital Public Services Award are:
Dumfries & Galloway Council for its Persons at Risk Database (PARD) which seeks to protect and prioritise the most vulnerable in the Dumfries and Galloway region during times of disruption. The system utilises social work and NHS datasets to provide real-time access via a geographic information system to pinpoint the location of vulnerable people during emergencies, saving valuable time in identifying priorities and deploying resources to where they are needed most.
The Scottish Parliament Information Centre, in partnership with Napier University, has developed a suite of online interactive tools to help MSPs – and the public – make sense of the mass of technical detail contained in budget documents and explore the impact of decisions around taxes.
Winners in each of the 12 categories of the Scottish Public Services Awards will be announced on December 7 at the Scottish Parliament.
